An introduction to Spaced-repetition Systems (SRS). What’s the fuss?

Speaker: Kent Hill
Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM (Sun., May 25th, 2008)
Fee (JALT members): free
Fee (One-Day members): 500 yen
Prefecture: Wakayama
City: Wakayama
Venue: Kaichi High School : Multi-media room
Description: If you haven’t yet heard about SRS and language learning, you surely will soon. It’s time to get up to speed! Spaced-repetition (SR), or “graduated interval” recall research started back in the 1930s and was first put into practice by Pimsleur in the 60s, but is only now coming to fruition as computer technologies make SR manageable for both teachers and students. In any subject, a part of learning consists in retaining items and concepts, for most of which drilling and repetition can be one of the most efficient means to internalize them, when done right. This is where an SRS can help.

Kent Arthur Hill is a lecturer at both Wakayama and Wakayama Medical Universities. He has spent the last 11 years serving the local Wakayama community teaching Communicative English to all levels of language learner. He is the founding president of JALT Wakayama and also serves nationally as the JALT Job Information Center (JIC) Coordinator.
