Teaching English in Elementary School

Description: This will be a bilingual presentation. Two teachers at Kitagata Elementary School will talk about their experience in team-teaching. There also promises to be lots of games on display, and ideas that can be used first up in the new school year. Please come along, and encourage any Japanese friends to attend.

Ganbare ALT! (Assistant Langauge Teacher)

Description: Using his four years of experience as an ALT in Gifu Prefecture, Mr. Vinko Bosnyak, an accedited teacher from New Zealand, has developed the Gambare! series for Japanese Primary and Secondary Schools. This presentation is a must-see for new Assistant Language Teachers as well as experienced teachers looking for new or alternative ideas. Some teachers may already know his two text books "Elementary Gambare!" and "Team Teaching Gambare!", but for teachers employed by towns or individual schools, please take advantage of the books (including "AET Gambare!") on sale at a considerable discount for attendees.

Description: McKenna has been teaching in Japan for over 7 years. As a BA in child psychology, director of summer camps, youth director on cruise ships and mother of two, her perspective on teaching EFL to kids is for it to be fun, for both students and teacher. The serious perspective is the preparation. She will cover lesson planning, songs, games and the little tricks that help a classroom run smoothly. Description: This bilingual presentation will deal with how Japanese and foreign teachers work together in an unique program called ACE, a short-term English program for elementary school children run by the Seki Municipal Council, Gifu Prefecture. The presenters will introduce the aim of the ACE program, and and explain the content of the curriculum. In addition, they will share some lesson ideas, and tell us about the children's reactions. Please join us in hearing about this truly unique and successful programme.
