The ERF spreads the "word" in Vietnam

The ERF held two "mini-conferences" at the end of August, at Vietnam National University, and Danang University of Foreign Languages where, Rob Waring and Tom Robb gave two presentations each on the basics of Extensive Reading. Vuong Ho, a scholarship recipient from ERWC3, also spoke at each event, along with Heather Doiron (Hanoi) and Makimi Kano (Danang). Rob, Tom and Makimi also gave presentations in Ho Chi Minh City at the "2016 Promoting Effective Change in the Language Classroom" conference.  The events garnered the names of over 100 teachers who are interested in establishing an ER Affiliate in Vietnam.

A rather late notice of the 2015 Language Learner Literature Awards!

February 10, 2015

Every year, the Extensive Reading Foundation recognizes the best new works of language learner literature in English. This year, from graded readers published in 2014, the ERF judges have chosen three finalist titles in each of 5 categories: Young Learners, and 4 Adolescent & Adult categories-Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate/Advanced.

The ERF will later select one winner in each category, taking into account the votes and comments of students and teachers of English worldwide. To encourage teachers and students to read and evaluate the books, the ERF, in cooperation with publishers, has a Finalist Evaluation Programme. In each category, two copies each of the three finalist titles are placed in the hands of 10 classes around the world. Successful applicants will receive the books during the month of April the finalists have been announced in April 2015, at the IATEFL annual conference in Manchester.

If you wish to participate in this year's evaluation programme, please go here, logging in as "giveaway" with "giveaway" as the password, and fill in all of the fields. The preliminary deadline for applications is 20 March 2015. The 2nd Extensive Reading World Congress:

A number of ER SIG officers and members attended the 2nd Extensive Reading World Congress in Seoul, Korea on September 12~15, 2013.  Thank you to everyone in Korea and at the conference who made our welcome very warm and who helped us with our questions and curious wonderings! It was a special experience to travel to a neighbourly country in Asia to learn and exchange ideas and opinions on ER. It was also a treat to be present for the most recent LLL Awards as well as the presentation of the John A. Milne Award Innovation Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Service of Extensive Reading awarded to Richard R. Day. The ER SIG offers our congratulations to the LLLA winners and to Professor Richard Day, as well as the hope that everyone got home from the conference safely.
