Description: Several local members have agreed to prepare a poster or mini-presentations (15-20 minutes). The topics are all related to John Wells' theme of teaching English intonation or to the teaching of pronunciation. All presenters will focus on practical teaching activities that they have used. Roger Nunn will start the session off with a brief summary of the main points from the last presentation by Professor John Wells.
We will be happy to meet members/guests from outside Kochi at either Kochi Station or at Asakura Station (a few hundred metres from the campus). Just let us know. (lingley@cc.kochi-u.ac.jp)

As well there will be an 'electronic poster session' in which presenters will have a table, four chairs and a wired laptop. Description: After a general survey of how psychometrics is relevant to applied linguistics, this presentation will focus on instruments that claim to measure various psychological constructs. These instruments are frequently suggested to teachers as a means of profiling students in the classroom so that they can assist those with particular problems or needs. This presentation will explain the psychometric theory behind such instruments, and methods for determining their validity, so as to enable teachers to make better choices of instrument.
