Three Presentations

Title: "Individualized Long-term L2 Reading"

Presenter: Roberta Welch

Language: English

Time: 2:15 to 2:40

"Individualized Long-term L2 Reading" is a poster presentation that outlines some factors that keep a learner of Japanese as a second language (JSL) motivated to continue reading. Frequent browsing of bookstores and libraries enables the reader to find reading materials at a suitable language level.

Incorporating L2 reading into the reader's daily routine is a key point. A web site facilitates online record-keeping. Reflective writing for the site leads to a variety of discoveries concerning L2 reading. Inspiring books encourage the reader to read even more.

Title: "How to Use Newspapers for Upper-beginning and Lower-intermediate Levels of Japanese Learners"

Presenters: Fujiie Hiroko and Sato Hiroko

Languages: English and Japanese

Time: 2:40 to 3:05

Learners are interested in reading Japanese newspapers but there are difficult words, structures and many kanji in most parts of newspapers. The presenters will introduce manga and some short articles with less difficult words and kanji for upper-beginning and lower-intermediate Japanese language learners.
