Description: Julian Ward will introduce the new four-level graded readers from Oxford University Press intended for teenagers and adults. Participants will look at an extensive reading in order to learn in detail what it achieves. Finally, participants will work together to discuss how these books can be used as intensive and extensive readers in the ESL classroom.

Workshop: Improving Communication Skills

Description: Ms. Falland will conduct a workshop to discuss and share ideas about improving students' communication skills. The workshop participants will look at context, congruence, constructing free dialogues from controlled practices, the conducive classroom, and some investigation of genre as it applies to oral communication. Also, there will be an analysis of the helping and hindering factors that impact upon teaching and an attempt to see if the helpful factors can be optimized to overcome the hindering factors. There will be some question time at the end to address any issues arising from the presentation.

Description: Julian Warden from Oxford University Press will hold a lively two-hour workshop on teaching children. The content will include guidance on teaching children: including useful classroom language and management, ideas on teaching conversation, vocabulary and grammar, storytelling techniques, testing comprehension, using songs and chants, and lots of games and activities.
