Description: Nagara's topic covers the junctures between Japanese language teaching and English language teaching. Hosoki's title is "Teaching Japanese to the Students of English: Their Strategies of Language Acquisition".
About the speakers: Professor Nagara teaches Language and Culture at Hijiyama University. Professor Hosoki teaches Japanese at the University of Maryland on the U.S Marine Corps base in Iwakuni.

Description: Toastmasters(TM) is a worldwide organization which aims to improve public speaking skills. This presentation at the chapter meeting will be specifically geared toward the needs of active JALT members--organizing and presenting ideas logically and convincingly when giving presentations at language conferences. Description: Covenant Players is a professional theater company specializing in communications. Covenant Players fields touring troupes throughout the world. This Hiroshima JALT chapter meeting is a three hour drama workshop. We'll learn some useful tips for teaching our students how to communicate effectively in English not only with words, but also with body language and gestures. As teachers, having the knowlege of drama will enhance our own ability to teach students. Using drama in the classroom for students of English as a foreign language will enable them to feel comfortable and, at the same time, make learning and practicing English a fun and exciting experience. Description: What is "boinguage?" How is "boinguage" different from standard/correct English? How is "boinguage" different from Japlish? How is "boinguage" different from non-standard/ incorrect English? How can knowing "boinguage" help teachers know what to correct? During the workshop, teachers will learn "boinguage." By understanding "boinguage," both teachers and students will be able to develop better listening skills. Come and be one of the few who will be able to experience "boinguage," and see how helpful "boinguage" can be in the learning and teaching of the English language. About the speaker: John F. Fanselow is President of International Pacific College, New Zealand, and Professor Emeritus at Columbia University Teachers College. Cat's Feat: From Practice to Principle in Task Design and Task-based Learning

Description: Willis will show how a series of communication tasks can be generated from one theme and demonstrate their use in class. She will illustrate activities which provide a focus on vocabulary, lexical phrases and grammar within the context of the task, and then summarise the principles and learning theories that support task-based learning(TBL). About the speaker: Dr. Jane Willis is one of the Main Speakers at the JALT 2002 National Conference. She worked as a language teacher and trainer in Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia before joining Aston University in the UK.
