From the Editor...

Welcome to the first issue of TOLd You So! for 2007.

We begin with a few words from our coordinator, Eric Skier, about upcoming conferences involving the LLL SIG. Details about these conferences can be found in the Upcoming Conferences and Events section of the newsletter.

The last issue of the newsletter introduced the LLL SIG officers elected at the JALT National Conference in Kitakyushu. This issue highlights the LLL SIG Forum, which took place on the second day of the conference. As such, each of the forum speakers has submitted a summary of his or her presentation. Martin Pauly describes how he uses sign language in the language classroom, Eric Skier offers insight into what topics may or may not interest older learners and Julia Harper summarizes her studies of email as a tool to facilitate language learning. This issue also contains Part 1 of a series in which Tadashi Ishida describes an unusual English lesson: an outing to Ueno Park.

The newsletter is a place to share ideas and research relating to the teaching of older learners. We look forward to contributions from our members.

2007年TOLd You So!の第一号にようこそ！

今回は、まずLLL代表のエリック・スカイヤーの行儀や大会紹介から始まります。詳しく知りたい方はUpcoming Conferences and Eventsのセクションをチェックしてください。

前回の会報では、北九州の大会で選出された新しい役員をご紹介しました。今回は大会2日目に開かれたLLLフォーラムに焦点を当てます。そこでは発表者からの発表内容が紹介されています。マーチン・パウリーは言語クラスで手話をどのように使用するかを説明しています。エリック・スカイヤーは高齢の学習者が興味を持つ話題、興味を持たない話題についての洞察を加えます。そしてジュリア・ハーパーは言語を学ぶ道具としてe-mailを使った方法をまとめます。また、石田正さんのシリーズ第一弾として、日本を訪れている外国人と上野公園を散策するというとてもユニークな英語レッスンを紹介します。

この会報は、会員が高齢者への言語教育に関して幅広く意見を交換し合う場です。みなさんの投稿をお待ちしています。
