Coordinatorfs Message (Spring 2009)
Eric Skier
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all well as we approach the end of 2009. The arrival of autumn, my favorite season, can mean only one thing: the JALT National Conference held in early November. This yearfs conference will be in Shizuoka and, if you visit the conference homepage at http://jalt.org/conference, you will be able to find all the information you need. If you have attended the conference in the past, you might remember that it is indeed a worthwhile experience. If you have yet to go, please try to make it this year. It is a great chance to meet very dedicated teacher-researchers from around the world.
I am also happy to report that projects undertaken by LLL SIG members seem to be coming along fine. As you may already know, editor Julia Harper has been working tirelessly night and day for quite some time on the LLL special edition of The Language Teacher. A number of submissions have been received and processed for the issue to be published in September 2010. The content will be of particular interest to LLL SIG members and serve to help raise awareness of lifelong learning. A project that has been supervised by another LLL SIG member. Sono Okabayashi, is an illustrated book of English haiku. Two of her students, author Tamiko Takatsuka (87) and illustrator Eiko Watanabe, have created this work as part of their English studies. Please try to attend the LLL SIG forum at the JALT National Conference where you can meet these creative ladies and learn more about the book. Take care, |
