The Art, Research, and Teaching SIG is happy to announce our second event for 2023.
With the "ART for All Teachers" event, we want to emphasize that ART SIG is for teachers, not just for artists and researchers.
We're highlighting the T in A.R.T.
We want to hear from teachers (all teachers!) who use art in their classroom. This event will focus on teachers' practical experiences and creative innovations with artworks in language learning. We're looking for 15- to 20-minute presentations which are knowledgable, colorful, and unusual.
Please contact us before July 16: art@jalt.org
Call for Venue for the PanSIG 2025 Conference
PanSIG is an annual conference usually held in May, and organized by many of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT). The conference brings together leading scholars and practitioners in language education from Japan, Asia, and throughout the world. It is meant to be a smaller, more intimate conference than the annual international JALT conference (which is held each fall), and is a place where SIG members can network with each other.
Applications are now open for the Call for Venue for the PanSIG 2025 Conference. The successful applicant (Site Chair) will join the current committee working on the 2023 edition and will be able to shadow the current 2023 Site Chair and learn from the experience. Those interested should fill out this form to apply.
The JALT Fukui Chapter is now the JALT Hokuriku Chapter
At the JALT Executive Board Meeting this past weekend in Okayama, a motion was passed to change the name of the JALT Fukui Chapter to JALT Hokuriku Chapter. The rationale was that the chapter has members from all over the Hokuriku region, which includes Ishikawa and Toyama as well as Fukui, so the name "Hokuriku Chapter" better represents the chapter's demographics. Their first chapter meeting as Hokuriku is July 2nd (Sunday). Please see the Hokuriku Chapter page for more information about this chapter.
Reminder: Registration Open for the Listening Conference 2023 (July 15th)
Our next Listening SIG event will be the JALT Listening SIG Conference on Saturday 15th July. The whole day event will showcase some of the latest listening research, teaching, and learning presentations from the field. The conference is scheduled to run from 10am to 4pm with over ten presentations scheduled in two rooms for the entire day. This is our second SIG event and we will be a face-to-face event. There will be a social on Friday 14th and also one to wrap up the conference on Saturday 15th. Eateries and lunch options are nearby and of course, you can take in the sights and sounds of Tokyo Teleport over this long weekend. We have created a registration form for those who are interested in attending. Please complete the form before the deadline so we can plan a safe conference, following COVID-19 regulations: https://forms.gle/AvM3sL5NNpX4oC5M6

Reminder: 2023 ICLE and GILE SIG Collaborative Conference Call for Presentation Proposals due June 1st
This year's conference will be a face-to-face joint event between JALT's ICLE (Intercultural Communication in Language Education) SIG and JALT's GILE (Global Issues in Language Education) SIG.
The theme of the conference is 'Intercultural Awareness and Addressing Global Issues: The Role of the Media in Conflict'. More than 110 armed conflicts are currently taking place worldwide, and the media's role in disseminating information is crucial. On a positive note, news, social, and web media can promote cultural appreciation, thereby curbing many existing and potential global issues. We are interested in submissions aimed at developing intercultural appreciation, addressing global issues and the role of media in promoting tolerance and acceptance. Through this conference, we hope to present some of the different practices educators use in order to foster empathetic future leaders. The deadline for submitting an abstract is June 1, 2023 and we are looking forward to your contributions (click here to submit an abstract).
