Winners of Complimentary Memberships to TESOL

We are pleased to announce the seven JALT members who have won the one-year complimentary memberships to TESOL International Association, one of our international partners.

We received nearly 100 entries into the drawing and the seven winners were randomly drawn via a randomizer application. All winners drawn demonstrated that they are active JALT members. In addition, JALT confirmed that they are current members, and TESOL will now confirm that they have not been TESOL members during the past 5 years, both requirements stipulated by TESOL. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone who took the time to apply. The drawing will take place again next year, most likely in March with a mid-April deadline.

PanSIG 2023 report and photos

On behalf of the committee, we want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the incredible success of the PanSIG 2023 conference in Kyoto. It was truly an amazing event, bringing together a community of awesome people from all over Japan and overseas. With over 550 registered participants and 260 sessions, the conference was buzzing with great energy and wonderful ideas. We are especially grateful to the more than 200 attendees (each!) who joined us for both the captivating plenary sessions that Mitsuyo Sakamoto & Yukie Saito provided, and the 11 AMs who supported this conference and introduced participants to their great resources.

2023 ICLE and GILE SIG Collaborative Conference Call for Presentation Proposals due June 1st

This year's conference will be a face-to-face joint event between JALT's ICLE (Intercultural Communication in Language Education) SIG and JALT's GILE (Global Issues in Language Education) SIG.

The theme of the conference is 'Intercultural Awareness and Addressing Global Issues: The Role of the Media in Conflict'. More than 110 armed conflicts are currently taking place worldwide, and the media's role in disseminating information is crucial. On a positive note, news, social, and web media can promote cultural appreciation, thereby curbing many existing and potential global issues. We are interested in submissions aimed at developing intercultural appreciation, addressing global issues and the role of media in promoting tolerance and acceptance. Through this conference, we hope to present some of the different practices educators use in order to foster empathetic future leaders. The deadline for submitting an abstract is June 1, 2023 and we are looking forward to your contributions (click here to submit an abstract).

Announcing the 2023 MEES (Michinoku English Education Summit) Conference (July 2)

Cosponsored by JALT's Iwate-Aomori Chapter and Hachinohe Gakuin University, the conference theme addresses the various theories, methods, and techniques in EFL teaching. There are varied and sometimes competing ways claimed to reach students and help to improve their English proficiency. The presenters in this year’s MEES conference will provide insights into this complex phenomenon both theoretically and practically.
