Hello, and welcome to another monthly edition of JALT Talk, the announcements newsletter of the Japan Association for Language Teaching. In many parts of Japan, cherry blossoms are blooming. I can't help but also feel hope in the air as five of our JALT events scheduled for April are planned to be in person, not online events (see the "Upcoming Events" section below), which gives me great confidence about seeing many of you face to face at PanSIG (July 8-10 in Nagano) and JALT2020 (November 11-14 in Fukuoka).

Reminder: Volunteer with JALT Publications!
The JALT Publications, JALT Journal, The Language Teacher, and the PostConference Publication, are looking for volunteers to review, copy edit, and proofread manuscripts and submissions. Training and mentoring will be provided to those who want to assist The Language Teacher and the PostConference Publication, as such no prior experience is necessary to join those teams. These positions do not involve a huge time commitment and are great ways to learn more about the publication process, improve your own academic writing skills, and make new connections within the JALT community. For more information, visit our recruiting page. You can also send an email to any of the journal editors for specific information or to jaltpubs.pubchair@jalt.org for general inquiries.
Join a Dynamic Team. Help with JALT2022 Conference Planning
The JALT2022 Conference Planning Committee is working on bringing our community a great conference in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan from November 11 to November 14. Thank you to all who responded to the last posting. We filled some key roles and are off and running with regards to conference planning. All that said, helping hands, arms, backs, minds, etc. will never be turned away and we will definitely need help, especially conference weekend. If you want to volunteer, please contact Director of Program, Wayne Malcolm at program@jalt.org. This is a great opportunity to be part of a team and work on JALT's marquee event, one of the biggest conferences in our community. Lend us your skills and you will be recognized!!!
Call for The Listening Post journal submissions and reviewers
The Listening Post seeks quality, empirically-based and theoretically-focused articles on listening research methods, the teaching of listening and the learning outcomes from listening in various language learning contexts. Submissions related to listening and other language skill development and/or other complementing components (i.e., resources) that are related to second and foreign language acquisition, will be considered. If you would be interested in reviewing articles for our journal too, please contact us. The Listening Post Guidelines can be found on our website https://jaltlistening.wordpress.com. Please send your submissions or contact us to discuss your idea at listening@jalt.org.

JSPS Ikushi Prize (Nomination deadline May 15, 2022)
In 2009, JSPS received an endowment from Emperor Akihito on the 20th year of his reign. Amidst a severe economic environment in Japanese society, His Majesty's desire was to encourage and support young scientists who are working diligently to advance their studies and research. In deference to his wishes, JSPS established the Ikushi Prize program and placed it into operation in FY 2010. It functions to formally recognize outstanding doctoral students who can be expected to contribute to Japan's future scientific advancement.
