Note: The pre-registration period will open in August, and finish at the end of October * If you will be 65 on or before 15 November 2024, or are a full-time student, you are eligible for discounted conference fees. JALT Junior is a satellite conference that focuses on teaching children and training teachers to teach children. * Technology in Teaching (TnT) and Professional Development (PD) Workshops provide opportunities for participants to develop either the technology, humanities, and or social sciences sides of their teaching skills through a series of practical, hands-on workshops, led by experts in these fields from the language teaching community.

JALT2024 Presentation Proposals

For most conference attendees, the relevant deadline for JALT2024 submissions was March 10th for vetted presentation proposals. However, the following deadlines are still open:

Featured Speaker Workshop proposals due March 31st, 2024:
- Applications to sponsor a Featured Speaker Workshop (FSW) can be made by JALT Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Chapters, and Associate Members (AMs are JALT's commercial sponsors, such as publishers)
- Form: https://jalt.org/node/3925
Unvetted proposals due May 31st, 2024:
- JALT Administrative Meetings (such as Chapter and SIG officer meetings, committee meetings, etc.)
- Chapter First-Time Presenter Program (JALT Chapters may submit a speaker; see the guidelines)
- SIG Forums (one forum per SIG)
- Associate Member submissions (these are JALT's commercial sponsors, such as publishers; individual AMs should contact the Associate Member Liaison for further details)
- Submissions made through a JALT International or Domestic Partnership Agreement

JALT2024 Tips and Historical information:

Shizuoka Granship is a popular venue for JALT conference-goers. We've been here seven times before: 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2015, and 2018.
When we've been here before, a popular area for many attendees to stay is on the north side of Shizuoka Station. It's never too early to book your hotel.
The venue is at JR Higashi Shizuoka Station, which is just one train stop away from Shizuoka Station. It takes about 3 minutes on the train and another 5 minutes on foot to the Granship.

PanSIG 2024 Conference News

Conference dates: May 24th - May 26th, 2024
Submissions period: November 1st, 2023 - January 15th, 2024
Location: Fukui University of Technology (福井工業大学), Fukui
Conference theme: Getting back to basics
Format: PanSIG 2024 will be a face-to-face event with live broadcast sessions and pre-recorded video presentations.

Registration fees for PanSIG 2024 were announced in the previous issue of JALT Talk. Registration is expected to open soon. Please check the registration web page next week for updated details (https://pansig.org/registration)

PanSIG is an annual conference usually held in May, and organized by many of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of JALT. Information about past PanSIG conferences (including photos, conference handbooks, etc.) can be found in the PanSIG Archive.

Call for presentation proposals for the Listening Conference 2024 closes March 31st

JALT's Listening SIG, in affiliation with the Kyoto JALT Chapter, is delighted to announce their third conference. The "Listening Conference 2024 - Learning, Teaching, and Research" will be a free one-day event taking place face-to-face at Campus Plaza, Kyoto on Saturday 13th July 2024 (TBC).

Our call for presenters is now open. We are looking for 20-minute presentations on topics related to listening and teaching, pedagogy, assessment, and resources. Presentations will be followed by a five-minute Q&A session. In addition to these three areas of research, we welcome other projects who mesh listening with other research areas.

Please submit a 200-word abstract using the google form link below. This call for abstracts will close at midnight on 31st March 2024.

Submissions are limited to one presentation (as lead presenter) per person. An individual presenter can present a total of two times to allow for a diverse selection of presenters.

Call for presentations now open until 19 April for ART in Kyoto - Creative Ideas for the Language Classroom (May 19th, 2024 online)

The JALT Kyoto Chapter and JALT ART SIG (Art, Research, and Teaching) are proud to introduce a joint event to be held online on May 19, 2024. We're looking for presenters to share successful lesson plans, interesting research outcomes, and teaching methods. These presentations can be on any topic - the goal is to share creativity and artistic approaches that fellow teachers may find useful as the new semester gets underway!

Extended deadline: Call for presentations for the 9th Annual Michinoku English Education Summit (Hachinohe, Aomori) due April 19th

JALT's Iwate-Aomori Chapter and Hachinohe Gakuin University is holding the 2024 MEES Conference on June 16th. This year’s conference will focus on feedback involving the language learner: teacher-to-student, student-to-student, and student-to-teacher.

KOTESOL is the Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, an international affiliate organization of JALT.

Seven (7) lucky JALT members will win one-year complimentary memberships to the TESOL International Association!

Participants must be active and current JALT members, and not a TESOL member (or someone who has not been a TESOL member in the past five years). To sign up for your chance to win, please follow this link to the sign-up form.
