JALT Junior is a satellite conference that focuses on teaching children and training teachers to teach children. * Technology in Teaching (TnT) and Professional Development (PD) Workshops provide opportunities for participants to develop either the technology, humanities, and or social sciences sides of their teaching skills through a series of practical, hands-on workshops, led by experts in these fields from the language teaching community.

Attendees of previous JALT Annual International Conferences will remember seeing volunteers in pink t-shirts helping with registration, the cloak room, presentation timing, and more. If you know university or graduate school students with English skills that they'd like to put to use, please refer them to our "Call for interns" page. (Some universities actually fund teachers to bring a group of interns each year as part of a work internship experience, so that might be something yours could do, too.)

JALT2024 Tips and Historical information:

Shizuoka Granship is a popular venue for JALT conference-goers. We've been here seven times before: 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2015, and 2018.
When we've been here before, a popular area for many attendees to stay is on the north side of Shizuoka Station. It's never too early to book your hotel.
The venue is at JR Higashi Shizuoka Station, which is just one train stop away from Shizuoka Station. It takes about 3 minutes on the train and another 5 minutes on foot to the Granship.

ALL Review, the official newsletter of the Accessibility in Language Learning SIG, announces an open call for articles and "stories from the field" that highlight practices that help students feel included, connected, and supported.

The newsletter aims to consolidate research excerpts, pedagogical results, teacher reflections, student experiences, or documentation of classroom practices for students with specific learning differences in ESL or EFL classrooms and make these experiences accessible to language teachers.

Contributions will be reviewed by the members of the ALL Review Publication team in partnership with specialists in the topic of the article submitted.

Accepted articles will be scheduled for publishing in the issues in December 2024 or a 2025 issue.

The Kobe JALT chapter is currently accepting submissions for the next issue of Kobe JALT Journal! We welcome articles with both a research focus, as well as articles that focus on practical teaching strategies. For more information, please see the "Call for Papers" section of the Kobe JALT website: https://www.kobejalt.org/submission-guidelines.

In addition, the editors of Kobe JALT Journal are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team as reviewers. No publishing/reviewing experience is necessary, and reviewers can review as many or as few articles as they wish. Inquiries can be made to the editors at kobejaltpublications@gmail.com.

Call for presentation proposals for the 2024 Tohoku ELT Expo (due October 27)

The Tohoku ELT Expo is sponsored by the JALT Sendai chapter, MY School, and St. Ursula Eichi Elementary-Middle-High School. It is a one day mini-conference offering quality presentations and materials displays for language teachers in any context: college, junior and senior high, elementary, kindergarten, and private language school. We invite anyone (educators, students, researchers) to present on your language-related ideas, interests and research. Presentation slots are 45 minutes (typically 30-35 min. presentation with 10-15 min. for questions and discussion).

Call for Presentation Proposals: Hiroshima JALT Conference & Book Fair (due Sept. 15)

Hiroshima JALT Conference & Book Fair: Teachers helping teachers helping learners helping learners helping teachers

Toyohashi JALT in collaboration with Nagoya-Gifu JALT are pleased to announce the opening of poster presentation submissions for their Grand Forum, to be held adjacent to Toyohashi Station on the afternoon of October 20, 2024.

Posters should conform to the same standards as the JALT national conference (see: https://jalt.org/conference/call-proposals). Applicants who will be presenting at the national conference are encouraged to submit their poster to the Grand Forum as well! The submission deadline is October 1st. Successful applicants will receive a response within 10 working days.

Deadline Extended: PanSIG Journal Call for Papers (now due Sept. 8)

We're excited to announce that the submission deadline for the PanSIG Journal has been extended for one more week! This extension gives you more time to refine your research and contribute to our upcoming issues.

All vetted presentations and forum presentations at PanSIG 2024 are invited to submit a paper based on their presentation for publication in the PanSIG Journal.

Do you know a JALT member who has made important contributions to our field? Make sure to nominate them for one of these awards brought to you by JALT's Awards and Recognition Committee! JALT has awards for teachers and researchers at various stages of their careers: Early Career Excellence Award, Mid-Career Scholar Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award. Any member is welcome to nominate another JALT member for an award—simply complete the Google Form in English or Japanese by 23:59 on Monday, October 7, 2024.

Each year, JALT awards up to three grants for a maximum of 100,000 yen each for research on language teaching in Japan. The grants aim to support language teachers with no outside sources of funding and encourage JALT members to engage in classroom-based research. Winners of the 2024 grants receive funding to conduct their research in the 2025 academic year.

Reminder: JALT's LD SIG: Call for the Theme and Team for Issue 10 of The Learner Development Journal

Each issue of the Learner Development Journal (https://ldjournal.ld-sig.org) is led and edited by a different team of editors who are enthusiastic about exploring a particular learner development theme with other practitioner-researchers. You then put together a short proposal to bring together a group of contributors with shared interests in exploring that theme together over 12-18 months - a Community of Practices approach with plenty of support and reflective space for sharing and developing inquiries and writing together.

JALT's Global Englishes SIG is pleased to announce the call for papers for the 2025 issue of Global Englishes SIG Journal.
