Description: Three speakers will give mini-presentations, each exploring a successful curriculum that has been tested in his or her class. Robin Manning will present successful task-based reviews and assessment utilizing BINGO, movies, and other enjoyable themes in English Communication classes. Tim Buthod will discuss the results of an audio journal curriculum used with first-year language-majors. Eleanor Kane will talk about classroom management of Extensive Reading, drawing on her experience of having used graded readers successfully in various courses.

Description: This workshop will introduce some ideas from Steiner Education which can be applied to teaching English to children. Several theoretical aspects will be dealt with. But the main part of the workshop will be devoted to "Learning by Doing."

Prof. Jaffke attended a Steiner School as a child, and has taught English at one of the Stuttgart Steiner Schools for 33 years. He has a PhD from Augsburg University. He is editor-in-chief of the series Materials for Language Teaching at Steiner Schools, which he started in 1975.

The presentation will be followed by a JALT Open Mike Session, when everyone can ask questions, suggest ideas, and share their concerns, complaints, and opinions about JALT.
