Description: Systemic Functional Grammar is an approach to language which challenges the traditional view of grammar as a set of rules to be obeyed or broken. This presentation will explain how language is classified under Systemics, and will also provide examples of how this system of classification can successfully be used in the classroom.

Description: Guided reading is a structured reading activity for informational text that helps students make sense of information. Workshop format proceeds from presentation with completed samples to participant practice with graphic organizer templates currently used in USA high school and college English and ESL classes, with specific application to English-Japanese bilingual textbooks addressing vocabulary development and narrative texts.
