Systems for Success

Description: Pattimore states that the teacher's job is to make a mini English-speaking world. He will present some of the activity systems he has developed that are designed to lead students to the ability to use natural English, and that have worked well in his junior and senior high school and university speaking classes. The systems empower teachers to generate activities independent of textbooks and resource books. His advice to participants is to adapt, adapt, adapt! Start building your systems tomorrow!

Description: This seminar aims to enable participants to become aware of issues in interlanguage pragmatics, focusing on cross-cultural differences in the use of language, as well as teaching pragmatics through consciousness-raising tasks while attempting to increase students' learning motivation. The seminar consists of two parts, theoretical consideration and pedagogical application.

Description: The development of teacher and learner autonomy in language learning is often the consequence of critical moments of change. Participants will be invited to explore self-reflection techniques by recalling and retelling memories of autonomy-inviting experiences that would be suitable for young learners up to adults. The result of the explorations from the workshop and practical samples of classroom use should provide resources that participants can use in the near future.
